What is the Lead Hook (#3)?

The lead hook is a powerful punch that can be used to set up other combinations or land a knockout. It's a great punch to learn for beginners because it's relatively simple to execute and can be very effective.

Here's a breakdown of the lead hook:

  1. Stance: Start in a balanced stance with your feet shoulder-width apart and your knees slightly bent.

  2. Hand Position: Hold your hands up near your face, with your dominant hand slightly forward.

  3. Punch: Pivot your front foot slightly inward and turn your body towards your opponent. As you do this, throw your lead hand in a short, arcing motion towards your opponent's head.

  4. Retraction: Immediately pull your hand back to its starting position.

Key Points:

  • Keep your elbow tucked in. This will help protect your ribs and generate more power.

  • Turn your hips. This will generate more power and accuracy.

  • Follow through. This will help you land the punch with full force.
